Decorative Ways to Repurpose Wine Corks

For those who enjoy drinking wine, it can be a good idea to save the wine corks. Corks can be reused in a variety of ways, plus many wine corks have decorative labels or drawings on them, making them visually interesting to use in crafts. Some ways that wine corks can be repurposed into useful or decorative items for around the apartment include:

  • Trivets – Also known as hot pads, trivets are a place to set down a dish that is extremely hot to prevent damage to the counter surface or table top. Using a glue gun, wine corks can be affixed to a small piece of plywood to make a unique trivet.

  • Cork boards – For this project, all that is needed is an empty frame in virtually any size and a glue gun. Remove the glass from the frame and affix the corks to the backing of the frame. Then notes, calendars, cards, and other items can be displayed using pushpins.

  • Wine charms – Since those who have spare corks are more likely to have gatherings where wine is enjoyed, the corks can be used to make wine charms that help people keep tabs on their own glass. The corks can be sliced into several smaller disks, then painted in different colors or designs. Then, an eye hook is screwed into each disk, and a wine charm ring (available at most craft stores) is looped through the eye hook.

These are just a few of the ways that residents who enjoy wine can reuse their wine corks.
