Anyone who’s wandered through the cooking oil section of a grocery store knows how many varieties there are available. It can be difficult knowing which choice is the right one for your needs, or to even know the differences between the vast selection of oils. In order to make the choice less intimidating and choose the best cooking oil for your dishes, you may want to consider reading about two of the most popular cooking oils:

  • Avocado oil – Avocados are known and loved for their delicious taste, creamy texture, and wide array of nutrients and healthy fats. It’s no surprise, then, that avocado oil has become a popular cooking staple. Unlike most oils, which are extracted from seeds, avocado oil is extracted from the flesh of the avocado. In addition to consisting of approximately 70% healthy monounsaturated fat, avocado oil also has a high smoke point of around 520°F, making it ideal for cooking.

  • Olive oil – Praised for its health benefits and distinct taste, olive oil is one of the most popular oils on the market. This oil is created by pressing whole olives. Its most common varieties are extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and virgin olive oil. EVOO is considered the healthiest type of olive oil because it is extracted using natural methods, resulting in a higher level of antioxidants. Olive oil can be used in dressings, marinades, and more, and its lower smoke point of 391°F means that it’s better used for lower temperature cooking methods, such as sautéing.
