Preparing for a Day at the Beach

The Villages, Florida, is just a few hours away from some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. However, while its relaxing atmosphere can seem inviting, the beach can be an uncomfortable and even painful place to be without the proper planning. Taking the time to prepare for a trip to the beach is essential to ensure that visitors will enjoy their beach experience. Beachgoers can be make the most of their trip by utilizing the following tips:

  • Pack the right clothing – It may seem obvious, but don’t forget to bring a bathing suit. It’s also a good idea to wear sandals, as closed shoes are not comfortable in the sand. Visitors can also bring water shoes in case the beach they go to has a lot of rocks or shells that could make it uncomfortable to walk on. Bringing a change of clothes is also a good idea, that way visitors can be comfortable in dry clothes on the way home.

  • Respect the power of the sun – The Florida sun can be powerful and overwhelming at times, so being prepared for the sun is an absolute must. Bring a strong sunscreen and apply it before arriving at the beach, reapply every hour or so to stay protected all day long. Protective clothing such as a long-sleeved shirt, wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses are all useful in protection from the sun. Bringing along items such as umbrellas or tents will provide visitors with a place in the shade to relax when they need a break from the sun.

  • Bring a cooler filled with plenty of water and snacks – Staying hydrated is extremely important when taking a trip to the beach. Between the heat and activities, visitors will start to sweat and without drinking enough water, dehydration is inevitable. Bringing snacks is a good idea too because visitors will definitely get hungry after a few hours – just be careful of the seagulls and never feed them!

  • Bring a radio, games, or toys – A radio is a great thing to bring to the beach that can enhance the atmosphere that visitors are looking for – just be mindful of the volume and language. Bringing items like a football, volleyball, or any sort of lawn style game can be a fun way to spend time at the beach and get a little exercise. Also, if visitors have children with them, they should make sure to bring things like plastic buckets and shovels to keep kids entertained.
