Creating Custom Throw Pillows for Your Apartment Near The Villages

Throw pillows are an excellent way to add a splash of color to the furniture in your PepperTree apartment home, but purchasing new pillows can sometimes be an expensive proposition. Fortunately, throw pillows are fairly easy to make, and you won’t even need to use a sewing machine to do it.

Follow these steps to create attractive throw pillows for the couch, futon, or loveseat in your apartment near The Villages:

• First, gather the necessary supplies. You’ll need some fabric, pillow stuffing/filling, a bottle of fabric glue, a pencil, scissors, and a straight edge. All of these materials can be found at your local arts and crafts store.

• Decide on the quantity and size of the pillows you want to create, and keep that information in mind when you shop for fabric and other supplies. Purchase slightly more than double the dimensions you decide upon to accommodate the entire pillow surface area and seams.

• Once you’ve decided on the shape you want, use a straight edge to trace the edge of your pillow. Mark it with a pencil on the interior of the fabric (the side that won’t be visible when the pillow is complete). Once you’ve traced two pieces in the same shape and dimensions, cut out both pieces.

• On one side of the fabric, apply a thin line of fabric glue around the perimeter, leaving half of one side unglued. That opening will be crucial later on to allow you to stuff the pillow properly. When you glue the pieces together, make sure that the side you eventually want to be on the outside of the pillow is facing in, and the “inside” is facing out. Then, carefully line up the two sides and press them together, ensuring that their edges meet and adhere.

• Allow the glued fabric to dry for at least 30 minutes. Once you’re certain the pillow is completely dry, turn it inside out so that the right side is on the outside again and the seams are now inside the pillow and no longer visible.

• Stuff your pillow carefully to avoid tearing the fabric. Once you’ve finished, fold the edges of the unglued opening under and glue them together. Just like that, you’ve got a new throw pillow!
