How to Make an Easy and Mouth-Watering Black Bean Soup

Black beans are known for being a healthy food option thanks to their high protein and fiber content. But aside from that, black beans can also be absolutely delicious. A staple in many Latin American dishes, black bean soup is both filling and satisfying. Below is a savory black bean soup recipe for 4, in case anyone wants to try their hand at this easy, savory, and healthful dish:

  • In a large pot, cook 5 slices of bacon or a ¾ cup of ham
  • When the meat is halfway done, add 1 medium, sliced white onion, 3 gloves of garlic, 1 tablespoon of ground cumin, and cook until the onions begin browning and the meat is fully cooked
  • Add 2 cans of black beans, along with 1 cup of vegetable broth
  • Put the heat in medium-high and as the beans begin simmering, add salt, pepper, 1 tablespoon of dried oregano, 1 bell pepper cut into small pieces, and 3 bay leaves
  • For about 5 minutes, let the beans simmer while covered to absorb the flavor of all the ingredients
  • Once the heat is turned off, grab a bean masher to mash some of the beans and create a thicker consistency
  • Let the beans cool enough to eat. Serve in individual dishes and top with cilantro, sour cream, and cheese
